Neighbourhood Champion

We are still welcoming applications from volunteers who would like to become Neighbourhood Champions with us.

Our Neighbourhood Champions are a group of volunteers raising awareness of Link Age Southwark in their local communities. This role is about promoting our volunteer opportunities, services and events, building connections with local organisations and alerting us to opportunities within the borough of Southwark in order to help support and grow the charity.

"You get to help others and give something back to the community"

This role requires:

volunteering for approximately 1 hour per week
identifying and connecting with local businesses who could support Link Age Southwark by providing raffle prizes or hosting a fundraising event
putting up flyers for upcoming events in your neighbourhood
promoting our services and volunteering opportunities amongst your contacts
finding local community events for Link Age Southwark to have a stand with leaflets, promoting our services and volunteering opportunities
placing and collecting coin collection tins in cafés, restaurants, shops etc.
attendance at a volunteer induction
completion of a full Disclosure Barring Service and character reference check
a commitment to working within the policies of Link Age Southwark

We cover all reasonable expenses and are happy to provide references for volunteers who have completed 6 months of volunteering with us.

As a volunteer telephone buddy, you will make regular calls to an older person. Your role will be to offer them a listening ear, to check on their general wellbeing and to engage with them in friendly conversation.
Young Fundraisers

If you're aged between 12 and 18, the Young Fundraisers Programme is a great way to help the local community, meet like-minded people and boost your CV!
Hospital Buddy

If you are an empathetic person who would like to provide support to an older person recovering from elective surgery, consider becoming a Hospital Buddy for up to six months.
Check-In Support

Being a Check-In Support volunteer involves contacting out volunteers and service users to talk about their role or how they are finding our services and having a general catch up on their wellbeing.
Garden SOS

If you're the practical type, we're on the lookout for volunteers who could lend a hand helping an older person in the garden.
Community Fundraiser

Join our friendly committee of volunteers raising vital funds for our services by organising and hosting events.
Dementia Befriender

Volunteer to visit a person living with mild-moderate dementia for 1 hour, once a week and make a new friend in your community
Driver

Getting from A to B can be challenging for many older people. Our volunteer drivers help them to maintain active social lives.
Admin Support

Our office volunteers help with a wide range of tasks to keep our services running smoothly.

My experience as a volunteer

I've always worked in the NHS, mostly in paediatrics, and when I retired I wanted to do something equally rewarding but different so when I found that Link Age Southwark (Dulwich Helpline as it was then) was looking for befrienders for the elderly I thought this sounded exactly what I was looking for.
