We're delighted to be taking part in 5k May, an all-inclusive charitable 5k event, throughout May 2021. You can run, hop, roll, walk, cycle, swim...it's up to you!

Last year the #Run5Donate5Nominate5 running challenge went viral, with members of the public running 5K, donating £5 and then nominating a further 5 friends to take on the challenge. What started as a plan to raise £5,000 for NHS charities at the beginning of the pandemic took off on social media, becoming a major fitness motivation and fundraising tool for more than a million people.

The charity behind it all, Run For Heroes, has raised more than £7 million for NHS Charities with over 1.5 million participants, across 20 different countries. Now, Run for Heroes are back with a new virtual challenge, 5k May, and you can be part of it by supporting Link Age Southwark!

As the name suggests, it’s all about movement and hitting the 5km target. It’s not just about running though - you could walk, roll, skip or even swim your 5km if you wish. All that matters is getting your body moving and raising vital funds for a charity of your choosing.

How to get involved

  1. Participate in a 5k - take part on your own or in a group
  2. Donate £5 to Link Age Southwark's 5k May JustGiving page
  3. Nominate 5 friends or family members to do their own 5k
  4. Unlock an exciting digital goodie bag

You can also sign up beforehand to receive event information and a participant toolkit from Run for Heroes. This is completely optional - if you’d prefer not to sign up that's no problem, you can still participate.

Why it's so important

By supporting our charity during 5k May, you will help us to continue supporting older people and people living with dementia in our community.

Your donation could help towards:

  • Vital services including befriending, practical support and signposting
  • Getting our in-person social, exercise and activity groups back up and running
  • Recruiting and training our fantastic volunteers without whom, our work would not be possible
