We are delighted to have Sophie Wellings join us as the new Director of Link Age Southwark.

Sophie has had a long career in the voluntary sector working for both local and national charities including Barnardo's, the Ramblers and the University of the Third Age. She also spent ten years as a freelance consultant. Sophie's charitable roles have included leading on both the strategic and operational delivery of volunteer services. She has extensive experience of working with volunteer mentoring and befriending services for both adults and young people.

Sophie's freelance work has included undertaking assessments for two volunteering quality marks managed by NCVO - the Approved Provider Standard for Mentoring and Befriending Services and Investing in Volunteers. It was through this work that Sophie first encountered Link Age Southwark. She carried out the assessment of our befriending service for the Approved Provider Standard Award which we achieved in 2016. As well as her assessor role, Sophie's freelance work has also included developing good practice guidance for the volunteering website Doit.org and NCVO as well as evaluations of volunteer programmes.

I am honoured to be joining Link Age Southwark as Director. I was very impressed by the organisation and the quality of the services offered when I carried out the Approved Provider Standard assessment in 2016. Ruth Driscoll has done excellent work during her time as Director and leaves the organisation in a strong position to develop our service provision and continue to meet the needs of the growing numbers who access our services.
