Many of the older people we work with find it hard to maintain their gardens or complete odd jobs around the home.

Our wonderful gardening and odd jobs volunteers help the older people we work with to enjoy their gardens and stay independent in their own homes. This is on an as-needed basis and at a time convenient to you.

This role could involve:

  • tidying up, deadheading and weeding
  • cutting the lawn or trimming hedges
  • planting
  • changing a lightbulb
  • hanging curtains

We do not ask volunteers to undertake heavy labour or major landscaping work. The older person will normally provide the necessary equipment for each gardening job.

"I enjoy my gardening work with Link Age Southwark, gaining experience and confidence and I enjoy meeting people."

This role requires:

  • a cheerful and friendly personality
  • good communications/listening skills
  • sufficiently good physical health
  • attendance at a volunteer induction and other relevant training opportunities
  • completion of a full Disclosure Barring Service and character reference check
  • a commitment to working within the policies of Link Age Southwark, in particular health & safety, confidentiality, safeguarding and equality & diversity

We cover all reasonable expenses and we are happy to provide references for volunteers who have completed 6 months of volunteering with us.
