You can double your donation during our Big Give Christmas Challenge and help us combat loneliness and isolation experienced by older people in our community.

The Big Give Christmas Challenge is the UK’s biggest online match funding campaign, taking place from midday on Tuesday 1 December until midday on Tuesday 8 December. During this week, any donations made to us up until our target is reached will be DOUBLED!

We have secured match funding from generous individual sponsors and our Big Give Champion, The Julia and Hans Rausing Trust. As a result, we have the opportunity to raise a total of £24,000 by the end of the campaign week.  These vital funds will enable us to diversify the way we offer our groups, to include face-to-face, online platforms and conference calling.

So far, we've moved 6 of our groups online, but we can't stop there. We want to reduce loneliness and isolation experienced by older people and those living with a diagnosis of dementia, ultimately ensuring nobody is excluded in our community. As government guidelines continue to change, it is essential for us to adapt and expand the way we offer our groups to those we work with.

One donation really will make twice the impact!

Sophie Wellings, our Director said: “2020 has been a challenging and complex year for us all. We have been overwhelmed by the support and goodwill that we have received from the community. The money that we raise from the Big Give contributes significantly each year in supporting our work. It feels hard to reach out again after so much has been given by the local community, but any contribution that you can make to this appeal will be very gratefully received.”

So, save the date in your diary, set yourself a reminder and please support our campaign in any way you can. If you are thinking about supporting us in the run up to Christmas, please consider making your donation between 12pm on Tuesday 1 December and 12pm on Tuesday 8 December, so your gift can be doubled. Any donations, big or small, are welcome and you can support us in other ways by sharing our posts on social media.

How does it work?

What is our target?

Thanks to our individual sponsors and The Julia and Hans Rausing Trust, we have raised £12,000 in pledges for our matching pot. Our aim is to raise an additional £12,000 during The Big Give Christmas Challenge week, giving us the opportunity to reach a total of £24,000 overall.

To ensure your donations qualify for match funding, please follow these steps:

  1. Make your donation between 12pm on 1 December and 12pm on 8 December 2020
  2. Your donation must be made via our Big Give Campaign webpage during this time

What difference can you make?

The feedback we receive from our service user evaluations confirm that our groups have a clear social function and increase attendee’s energy levels. Last year alone, we ran 26 groups who met 758 times, with a record 6,160 attendees in total. 96% of group members reported they were either happy or very happy with our groups, with one member saying, “Group session gives me a big uplift. We sing and talk. It’s nice to socialise.”

Another member’s husband commented on the impact the musical group has on his wife, who lives with dementia; “She used to love music […] and the group helps her to connect some way through music.”

We want to diversify the way we offer our social and activity groups to ensure that older people age healthily and happily, and feel connected to their community. You can help us to make that difference.

To get involved you can join us for our Big Give Christmas Quiz at 7.30pm on Tuesday 1 December. If you would like to organise your own fundraising event or require further information please contact us via [email protected]
