Update: YOU DID IT!

We are thrilled to announce we raised a grand total of £26,945 in our Christmas Challenge, beating our target of £26,000! This is an amazing result and something we would not have been able to achieve without our fantastic supporters - thank you, we are truly grateful.

A special thanks also goes to our generous individual sponsors and our Big Give Champion, The Julia and Hans Rausing Trust, who pledged their support to match-fund donations made up until our target was reached.

These vital funds will help us to continue our free transport services for older people and those living with dementia, ensuring they can attend our exercise and activity groups and events across Southwark.

Thank you for supporting our mission to reconnect older people to their communities.

Double your donation to Link Age Southwark this Christmas!

We are delighted to have been selected to take part in the Big Give Christmas Challenge 2021, to raise £26,000 towards our transport services for older people and people living with dementia.

We hope to raise a total of £26,000 in just ONE WEEK in order to achieve our aims:

  1. To provide a free transport service to every older person who would not be able to attend a Link Age Southwark group or event unsupported
  2. To provide escorted transport journeys for older people with a diagnosis of mild to moderate dementia
  3. To recruit and maintain an active team of volunteer drivers to support our transport offer to older people and their carers

Donations made to Link Age Southwark during the Christmas Challenge will be generously matched by The Julia and Hans Rausing Trust and other funders who have generously pledged their support. This means your donation will have twice the impact! In order to access the £13,000 we have in our matching pot, we’re hoping to raise £13,000 in online donations during the Christmas Challenge week. This is where you come in!

Meet Ken, one of our amazing volunteer drivers!

The focus of our campaign this year is reconnecting older people to their communities. Prior to the pandemic, we ran 24 social, exercise and activity groups, and over 250 service users benefited from them per year. We also provided 4000 transport journeys for our service users, to and from these groups, in the year before the pandemic.

We are now working hard to encourage older people and those living with dementia to re-engage with our in-person groups. Our provision of transport includes our fantastic volunteer drivers, escorted taxis for those living with dementia, as well as an accessible minibus. These services play a big part in supporting our service users to get out and about, and for many, they provide an opportunity to socialise with other people outside of their home.

"We are aware that some of our service users have experienced a deterioration in their mobility, as well as their mental wellbeing. Our groups provide older people and those living with dementia an important connection to their local community"

- Sophie Wellings, Chief Executive of Link Age Southwark
