JAGS welcomed Alex Hutchinson as Headmistress in September 2020. She read Chemistry at St Edmund Hall, Oxford and subsequently obtained her PGCE at the University of Bristol. She has over twenty years of academic and pastoral experience gained at leading girls’ schools, both day and boarding. Previously, Alex was Head at Woldingham School, joining in January 2015 as Deputy Head and becoming Headmistress there in September 2016. Alex has experience as a school Governor and is the Chair of the GSA Education Committee. A profound commitment to education is central to the lives of both the Hutchinsons; her husband Chris is also a Head.

Alex continues to take an active interest in sport and, having very recently retired from her local hockey team, enjoys cycling and walking, especially in the company of her husband and Scrumpy, the cocker spaniel.
