This week it’s Volunteers Week and there is a growing body of evidence about the benefits of volunteering for wellbeing.

There are many reasons to volunteer, but here are five good ones:

- giving your time to a charity makes you realise you can have a positive impact on the local community
- being part of a team of volunteers can help you feel valued and part of a team effort
- it can be a route to employment, where you gain new skills, knowledge and experience – or develop existing abilities and knowledge
- it's a great way to enhance your CV and improve employment prospects
- you get to use your professional skills and knowledge to benefit others

There are other benefits – such as:
- meeting new people and making new friends
- a chance to socialise
- getting to know the local community.
